For an Employer...
Staff recruitment, retention and occupational health is a prevalent topic in the industry. Not all employee benefits need to be expensive
We understand that every employer will have different concerns, budgets and areas they would like to address, we can tailor policies to these areas
Tailored packages start from £5 per employee per month

For employers that don’t currently have the budget to allocate to employee benefits, NRSI welcome the opportunity to work with them and their employees, so that employees have relevant information regarding what they are or are not entitled to as part of their employment, and industry schemes
Allowing them to make informed decisions about protecting themselves.
For a Groom...
Work rider / Yard groom - Racing yard

If you are working for a licenced trainer you probably pay RIABS contributions, this a great scheme provided for those working for licenced trainers.
However, it is important that you understand how it works and what is covered, and MOST importantly the limitation of RIABS

Unfortunately, it is all too common that people believe that they are fully covered by RIABS, this is not necessarily the case

In this instance you need to consider, long term injury, sickness, if your average weekly income exceeds £400 per week, and what activities you take part in outside of work. This also includes riding out for another yard after work

Protecting your income if you suffer one of the above can cost as little as £1 per day
Cover is tailored to your needs and budget, but here is an example to give you an idea
A 20-year-old insures themselves for £300 per week if they can’t work because of accident (inside and outside of work) or sickness. They will receive £300 per week until they are able to return to work
This costs them £31.86 per month*

Work rider / Yard groom – Pre-Training/Non licenced Yards

When working for a Pre-training or non licenced yard you must be aware that as much as your employer will want to look after you the best they can, it is not always financially viable for them to do so
The best way to protect yourself, is to do exactly that. An income protection policy would be the most comprehensive way to do this. Protecting you whether you are off work due to illness or an injury

As an example; £250 per week (after 1 week off work until they are well enough to return to work) costs a 31-year-old £35.60*

Free-Lance rider/groom

If you are a free-lance work rider you will be very aware that you need to be fit and well to work every day in order to earn a living
If you are unable to work, be it through injury or sickness, it will severely impact your cash flow and therefore your standard of living

As an example; a 26 year old, covers their income for £1.07 per day, or £32.68 per month*
If they can’t work for more than a week, they will receive £250 per week (until they are able to return to
work), or until they reached retirement age (if they can’t return to work again)*
If they wanted to protect their family in the event of their death, and for them to get £100,000, it would cost
£5.39 per month*

Fracture & Hospitalisation, from £8 per month

Stud Groom

When working for a stud, from the stallions to foaling mares to the general duties, and going to the sales, some may think that you are not at risk as much as work riders

You must be aware that as much as your employer will want to look after you the best they can, it is not always financially viable for them to do so
You need consider the impact short term absence may have on your income and how long-term illness or injury may impact factors such as having your accommodation provided by your employer

An income protection policy would be the most comprehensive way to do this. Protecting you whether you off work due to illness or an injury, short term or long term

As an example; a 29-year-old covered for £263 per week (from the first day they are unable to work until they return to work) would cost £8.52 per week or £36.90 per month*

You may also want to consider;
